Obituary of Richard C. Forbes

Richard C. Forbes, 83, of Volney, passed away Saturday, October 14, 2023. He was born April 25, 1940 to Walter and Essie Forbes in the family home and remained a resident there all of his life. Richard was employed at the Fulton Patriot for 17 years and the Fulton Valley News for 35 years from where he retired as a proof reader. Richard was a member of the Volney Town Board, Election Board and Zoning Board. He was a member of the Volney Senior Group and enjoyed travelling with them on a variety of different trips. Richard was an active member of the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church where he loved his church family. Richard was also a member of the Mount Pleasant Grange #329 and an election poll worker for the Town of Volney. Richard collected Snoopy memorabilia, antiques and furniture. He and his close friend, Wendell Howard enjoyed going to garage sales and flea markets. Richard was known as a “Stickler” when it came to his lawn and flowers, everything had to be perfect, neat and in place. Richard is survived by his brother, Charles W. Forbes of Volney; his nieces and nephews, Diana (John) Allen of Oswego, Joseph R. (Gina) Bush of Baldwinsville, Mark (Louella) Forbes of Oswego, Tammy LeJune of Charlotte, NC and Ricky (Adelle) Bush of Granby as well as several great nieces and great nephews. Richard was predeceased by his sister, Marie I. Bush in 1997, his brother-in-law, Joseph Bush in 2006; by his great nephew, Daniel Bush in 2013 and by his sister-in-law, Rita Forbes in 2020. The Forbes family would like to thank Richard’s neighbors, Jim and Karen Gallagher and Jeff and Penny Loomis for all of their acts of kindness towards Richard during his recent illness. Richard often said, “I am truly blessed to have so many loving friends”. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, October 20, 2023 at the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, 2819 County Route 45, Fulton, NY 13069. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Calling hours are 4 to 6 p.m., Thursday, October 19, 2023 at Brown Funeral Home, 21 Flood Drive in Fulton.
