Obituary of Carmella Demperio

Carmella Louise Demperio of Fulton, passed away Saturday, October 31, 2020. She was born in Fulton to the late Mary (Massaro) and Anthony Demperio, Sr. Carmella’s family was everything to her, she loved her family and was supportive and kind to everyone she met. Carmella loved spending holidays with her family, Halloween being her favorite time of the year. Her Halloween menu was her famous macaroni and meatballs where many family members would enjoy the meal and the festive atmosphere as Carm would entertain them in her many different costumes. Carmella was a graduate of Fulton High School in 1957 which she was always proud of and instrumental in organizing their class reunions. Carm was known around town for her creative talent and planning wonderful shows and skits. Carmella had a diverse employment history, first as a hairstylist at the Crowning Glory, owned by her sister, Rose Marie, employed at Black Clawson, Zinc Manufacturing and she retired from The Church of the Immaculate Conception (Holy Trinity Parish) where she was also a communicant and ordained minister. Carm was involved in many civic organizations and usually took an active role as president. One of Carm’s proudest moments was being the director of the Fulton Softball Association for 12 years. Carm was a councilman for the City of Fulton, a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Woman’s Business Association, The Elks Club, Salvation Army Board, The City of Fulton Democratic Committee, Girl Scout Leader and she played “Mrs. Claus” for many years at the Fulton Christmas tree lighting ceremony. Carm achieved the highest honor as being named Woman of the Year by ABWA. She was also involved with many sports, bowling being her favorite, she played on numerous leagues and she was inducted into the Fulton Women’s Bowling Hall of Fame. Carm was a member of the CNY Rod and Gun Club, she loved hunting and putting on her big orange coat and pants and walking through the woods. Carm was an archer and the past owner of E & R Archery Shop. Carm enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing, traveling to Canada to fish, she was an avid golfer and drove in the Powder Puff Derby. Carmella will be greatly missed and loved by her three children, Mary (David) Wallace of Phoenix, Loretta Dunsmoor of Fulton and Roger (Lynn) Dunsmoor of Fulton; three siblings, Eunice Pomeroy of Rochester, Rose Marie (Joseph) Zullo of Liverpool and Anthony (Valerie) Demperio of Fulton; 10 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 a.m., Thursday, November 5, 2020 at Holy Trinity Church, 309 Buffalo St., Fulton. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fulton. Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at Brown Funeral Home, 21 Flood Drive in Fulton. Covid precautions will be in effect.
