Connie and I are so sorry to read about Charlie’s death in the Valley News. He was such a good guy. We remember so well the air show parties which were so much fun. We also remember well our visit with you in North Carolina and seeing the Dale Earnhardt museum with your son. Please let us know when you are able to have the Memorial service. Your wonderful husband was too young to be taken from you so soon. We know that your faith and family will help you get through this difficult time.

I have so many memories of Chuck! Racing, working at Miller Brewing together, being good friends of my brother Gregg.
Chuck always had a smile on his face, and whenever we talked we reminisced about the old times, friends and family. In fact the last time I saw him in January we had a wonderful conversation with so many great memories of days past.
I also lived near them in the Charlotte area and remember going to their home one Memorial Weekend for a Race picnic. He was in his element. Darlene and I got together from time-to-time and was nice knowing that Chuck and Darline were there close. They welcomed me into their home.
My favorite memory of Chuck was back in the 80’s during the winter. We had snow with no place to put it, I look and here comes Chuck in his tractor that he had driven from Silk Road to Utica Street to clear his in-laws driveway out and cut back banks. He had a great big smile on his face as he drove up Utica Street stopping to push back snow banks at edge of driveways......He smiled so wide....

I worked in the same area as Charlie for many years at PM. He was a great guy! Always smiling, always happy, always friendly and would ask you how you were doing (every day!), and just talk about anything that came up. He was a pleasure to work with for so many years!
Saddened first, and happy for him, at the same time. Happy, because I know he's up there with the angels.

Am sure that my husband, being a cousin of Chuck, has many more memories than I but I recall back in the Winter of 1968-69 when my husband was in Vietnam I visited Aunt Lottie and Uncle Lett with my inlaws, Jim and Dorothy Steele. Well, Chuckie was there and they ALL thought it would be a good idea for me to go on a snowmobile ride as I had not ever been on one and Chuckie was the perspective "driver". He was quiet and well mannered and appeared "no threat"...I agreed and a "snowmobile suit" was found for me that was sizes much too large but I suited up and went on the ride. OMG....didn't know that this mild mannered guy was an IMP at heart. It was dark out and we FLEW through the woods.....barely missing trees. What a ride. A few times I actually cried out and "Chuckie calmly just laughed". He had a great time and we sat afterward at the table with his folks and my inlaws all laughing even with my heart still in my throat!!! What a SUPER NICE FELLA.....because I DID SURVIVE IT and remember him fondly. He is so missed but has joined MANY GREATS in his Heavenly home. GOD BLESS YOU, CHUCK!!!

Chuck will always be in our prayers. He greeted you with a happy smile that made you feel good to be in his presence. All the welcoming the Kerfiens put into their air show gatherings are happy memories. He was a fine example of a man with our good Lord in his soul. We love you, Darlene.

My deepest condolences go out to you all. One memory keeps coming back to me from many years ago when Chuck and all his brothers came into Auburn to New Hope Mills and invited me to join them for breakfast. They celebrated my birthday with me that morning and surprised me. It was the best ever watching them all laugh. After, we all shopped in the store. I loved listening to his laughter the most. He loved his family unconditionally.

It’s been close to thirty years since I met Chuck. Ryan and I were great friends then, and I consider him one now and forever. The clearest memory I have was the family’s devastation when the brewing company closed in Fulton. I guess it sticks out most due to the challenging times for many of my friends and their families. Challenges like these make us who we are and Chuck Kerfien, for lack of a better word, IS awesome. In our teens few of us realize when we are being influenced. I certainly didn’t. Leadership, guidance and development through perseverance is how most of us build our young men. Chuck epitomized these. A glance at who Ryan, Scott and Charlie have become tells the tale. I loved him more than I thought for being who he was. Thank you Chuck. God bless you!

I can still picture Chuck sitting with my brother on my brother's front porch. He would stop by for a nice visit and it raised my brother's spirits so much during his cancer illness. I also remember that Chuck continued those visits when my brother finally had to be in a nursing home the last couple of months. I will always remember his kindness and not being in a hurry during those visits. He stayed as long as needed.

Chuck always made you feel like he'd known you for years. I enjoyed sharing a meal with him and Larry Kimmer at The Farmhouse in Salisbury shortly after PM closed. He was an uplifting guy then, and always. I never saw either of them again to my regret.
He spoke affectionately about you, Darlene. Prayers for all the friends and family.

Chuck Kerfien was a good friend to Preston and I. We enjoyed many jars of honey from the family farm. I remember when he came back from knee surgery, walking calmly like he was whistling with his hands in pockets. I said you came back too soon. He said "No I didn't and the surgery was the best thing he did". Just a good person, Condolences to his friends and family!

Chuck and I worked together at PM Cabarrus. We spent many hours talking NASCAR racing, especially Modifieds. I always enjoyed those chats. Recently, he had gotten my phone number, and had called me a few times to chat. It was great to hear from him again, and I had hoped that maybe someday our paths would cross again. They will, but it will be in a different place. Prayers to the family and friends. Rest In Peace, my friend. I'll see you later.

It was unfortunate that myself and my family never had the opportunity to meet Charles “Chuck” but we have had the privilege of meeting his son Ryan. Although our first meeting was work related, we have continued to grow our friendship outside of work. Much like I have read the stories of Mr. Kerfien, Ryan don’t fall far from the tree! Always open, warm, and inviting, Ryan is a great man and follows in the steps of Dad! As I am sure all of the kids, coming from the great upbringing from a wonderful father and mother! I have a void knowing that I was not able to meet another great father that did a hell of a job raising and providing for a great family. I hope that Charles gets the opportunity to shake hands with my Dad in heaven and that the both of them will look after all of us and help in continuing our shared friendship in the outdoors, family, making a living to help support our families and enjoying every day to it’s fullest. Our hearts and love go out to all the families and friends, even though we have only met a few. Please know that we are here for you all. If there is anything we can do, please don’t hesitate to ask. From our family to yours, Prayers, love and joy in celebrating the life of your father, husband, grandfather and icon of your family. God bless!

I remember when Chuckie & Darlene surprised me when they came by the police department to see me. When we were attending the Coca-Cola 600 and I was walking back up the stands to my seat and out of no where cousin Chuckie yelled at me I was totally surprised I didn't even know he was there.

Mr Chuck.
What a man! First time we met I felt like I'd know him for years. Come on over here and sit right down he would say. Need a beer or a burger? My wife and I had many great outings with Chuck and Darleen at the Bristol NASCAR track. Hangin at the special spot right on the creek. They even spent time at our home in Olympia WA. It was a real privilege, I was racing dirt as Chuck did in his earlier years. Chuck spent a night on my pit crew. What a great time!!! and what an honor to know this great man.
I'll miss you buddy.
