As beautiful as she was on the outside, her beauty beneath the surface was immeasurable. Grandma (Rose) was among the most generous and nurturing people I've ever known. She went out of her way to take care of those around her, and did so lovingly. Her calm, quiet disposition, short stature, and the sweetest of smiles hid behind it one of the strongest women I'll likely ever encounter. She was a fighter till her last breath; perseverance personified.
She was also fun, sharp, and quick-witted. I remember her at family gatherings making an entire table laugh with her silly, often jaw-dropping sense of humor. She just had that way about her. If those around her were content, so was grandma. Speaking of fun, for all the time that I knew her, one of her favorite things in the world to do was to sit in the darkened living room, up late at night by herself, watching horror movies. Halloweens at her house before going out to trick-or-treat will always be among my favorite memories. Something scary was always on the TV, and the house was always well-decorated!
Her spaghetti and meatball dinners were among the best I've ever had, and her secret (family recipe) sauce is something I'll be talking about-and missing-forever.
The void left behind by her passing can only be partially filled by the fond memories of time spent with her, but there are a great many of those, and to them we will all cling desperately. May she rest in peace.
